This is a beautiful poem from a mother about her son. She did not wish to be identified.
The life that you lived was cut too short,
and that was so unfair
Now we’re left to face each day,
Knowing that you’re not there.
Your little boy look up at me
With tears filling his eyes,
He says to me, “why grandma?”
“Why did my Daddy have to die?”
I pick him up and hold him close
And try to ease his pain,
I whisper to him softly,
“They say that God had called his name”
To a little boy, that’s just lost his Dad,
That could never be enough
He then gets mad and screams out loud,
“I AM SO SAD! CAN’T YOU SEE I WANT MY DAD!”
The heartache that had made its home inside that sweet boy’s heart
It twists and turns and eats at him throughout each day
And late into the dark.
I know not what to do our say
To make him be okay
So I try with all I have inside
Just to be there for him along the way.
Your memory will stay alive
As long as I breathe air
I will always be there reminding him
Of how much his Daddy cared.
Somehow we will find a way
To go on in this life
All for those little boys
Your death has left behind
We can never give up,
It’s our duty to guide them right & to let them know no matter what,
That their Daddy will forever be in their heart.
